Am I enlightened? I am the first to admit my life was not a reflection of an enlightened person; at least that was my assumption.
I am still in an early phase of studying energy healing. I have yet to go as deep as one can go, but I think there is some value in sharing my experience about how energy healing modalities can help us create tangible changes in our lives.
I wrote a blog post about my first experience with a process called “soul retrieval”, which helped me jumpstart my healing journey. That first soul retrieval helped me to feel stronger, more balanced, and more able to be present after struggling a whole year with PTSD symptoms.
Since then, I have read a lot about soul retrieval and soul loss. According to the shamanic view, soul loss occurs when a part of our essence cannot understand or deal with the reality, and “splits off” from the whole. In psychology, this is referred to as dissociation.
Soul loss can happen in a variety of ways, big and small. Although, soul retrieval is the process the shaman uses to reunite that split off part of someone with the person in the current time.
Next, there comes a process called “integration,” which I find to be the hardest part of this work. I believe it is harder because this process requires caring for the split off soul and ensuring it feels safe enough to not escape again.
Some people point out that soul loss is useful to us in that it allows us to stay safe. However, the trouble comes when the needed soul part does not return. This leads to many people who are working with less than their total energy and power, unsure about why they cannot just move on in life.
From my discoveries, soul loss is common, but soul retrieval is not as common. Since my first soul retrieval, I have read that the process can help not only PTSD, but depression and addiction.
While I was recovering from my own rape trauma, I kept thinking of the countless number of military veterans with PTSD, survivors of rape and other types of abuse, and others facing depression.
I kept wondering how soul retrieval might help them like it helped me. For me, one soul retrieval was like fast-forwarding through a hundred therapy sessions. I did go to therapy afterward, but I cannot begin to tell you the healing power of soul retrieval was for me.
In my research, I became curious about how this could affect families. I heard on a podcast by Christina Pratt, a shamanic practitioner in Portland, Oregon.
She is someone who has seen that soul loss can manifest in behavior patterns that inadvertently cause the same in their children. This really struck a chord within me, because I grew up with parents who were victims of abuse and never got the necessary support to heal from the trauma.
I remember my childhood as a traumatic experience for me. I wonder what would have happened if my parents resolved their issues instead of suppressing them.
For this reason, I strongly believe this work can help families, no matter their stage in life.
As a parent, I want my children to live a life they love and feel a sense of comfort. My job is to provide them with the tools. Although, if I do not have the tools, how can I guide my children to create balance for themselves?
We do not have to stay lost. There is a way to come back home, and it is actually much more accessible.
We do not have to resign ourselves to struggling forever and feeling powerless.
Since these emotional tools are available to us, why not give it a try? I think it is well worth a try!
