This past Sunday, multitalented actress Tracie Thoms sat down for an interview with Myshell Tabu, hostess of It's Komplicated. Braving technical difficulties, Thoms opened up about a wide variety of subjects and it was an engaging conversation between the two women. For the full experience, you can watch the archived show, but here are some of the highlights:
- After being a big fan of the Lynda Carter show, Thoms left the property but found her way back some years ago, decking herself out with t-shirts and paraphernalia, and singing the old theme song.
- She imagined the original theme music presented by some lounge singer with a powerhouse set of sisters doing background vocals.
- Thoms implied that the version of the pilot seen by Geekshow in their review was an incomplete cut that wasn't the same as the final product. She considered the violence perpetrated by Adrianne Palicki as the title character was fitting for the character and that the word "tits" was uttered maybe once.
WONDERFALLS
- Thoms said that when she meets a fan of the critically acclaimed show she has to hug them and "spin them around."
- The show was challenged not only by moving time slots and less-than-robust support from the network, but by the presence of Joan of Arcadia in the market at the same time.
- Thoms still shares a great friendship with actor Lee Pace, who alongside show runner Bryan Fuller, tried unsuccessfully to get her on Pushing Daisies.
- Called the show "a labor of love."
LOOPER
- Thoms couldn't say much about the new film with Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Leavitt. She did admit to being starstruck while on camera with Willis, forgetting her lines when he gave her "that look."
- She wouldn't discuss details of the plot, but said that the film would "change things."
RENT
- She discussed her saga of serially auditioning for the stage play, not realizing she was too young for the part she wanted. She credited that journey with getting her to Juilliard and giving her time to develop her craft.
- When finally selected, she took her first scene, filming "The Tango Maureen" alongside Anthony Rapp, and said she "almost lost control of my bodily functions."
- The cast was very welcoming of her and Rosario Dawson (who also starred in Death Proof with her) and she considered the movie the experience of a lifetime.
- As a Rent-head, she recognizes concerns some people have with the film, bug believes they were necessary for the translation to work.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Thoms admitted to being a huge shoe freak, in particular enjoying Camilla Skovgaard, Louis Vuitton and Jimmy Choo.
- She's been taking muay thai in preparation for roles she'd like to play.
- She's expressed an interest in The Walking Dead, which she enjoys a great deal, and believes she's perfect to play Agent 355 in an adaptation of Y: The Last Man, but also showed a lot of interest in being Misty Knight as well.
- Her new project, Liberty City: The American Dream, seems like a "gangsta" movie on the surface with the rappers in its cast, but does things no film has done before.
There was much more in the interview — Cold Case, Human Target, et cetera — and Thoms promised to return and discuss some of her new projects, including the aforementioned Looper, as well as singing for fans like BreonOnBroadway who were very enthusiastic about a chance to see and interact with Thoms. We were deeply honored to have this amazing talent on the show.
