These times are truly epic times, for we have reached a singularity, a turning point in culture. Before this day human costumes were restrained, held back by the barrier between one’s control over one’s body and the costume. But no more. The day has come where simply by thinking ad going about my daily life I can control my costume with mere thoughts: http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/ef66/ I remember hearing about these ears a while back when they were still in the beta phase, and it still seems a little creepy to be broadcasting my emotions to that degree. Often times it seems… Read more »
One of those Ted Talk things that dicusses human sexual evolution, and attempts to make a science based argument against a number of ideas about culture, gender, and why sex works the way it does in humans:

Does anyone else know if this is accurate or not? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure its alleging that Tosh aired child porn on national television. For obvious reason I haven’t seen the video to confirm what the blog is saying…
@Fnord,
Never seen that before. But it falls in line with what we already know. As far as the justice system is concerned, white women > white men ~ minority women > minority men. This holds for likelihood of being convicted, sentence length if you do get convicted, sentence length for the perp if you’re the victim, etc. And I guess we can add routine traffic stops to the list. The above should be formulated as some sort of sociological law or something.
@matera,
I think we both know the answer to that question.
“By combining data dealing with race and gender, Briggs found the differences between men and women do not hold up for all races. Out of all racial and ethnic categories of male and female drivers, white women were most likely to receive a perceived benefit in a traffic stop, such as receiving only a warning or no outcome at all. But the same is not true for black and Hispanic women, who were just as likely as white men to be ticketed, arrested or searched instead of receiving a warning or no outcome.” Why on earth would that article word… Read more »
No, that wording isn’t declaring white men to be “normal”. Not at all.
Nor does that wording signal any racial biases the author has. Not at all.
Men are more likely to be ticketed, searched, or arrested at traffic stops than women. This shouldn’t exactly come as a surprise to anyone following this issue, but new data is new. http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2012-06/ksu-rsh062112.php Gender has as strong an effect as race on traffic stop outcomes. White women are the least likely to be searched or arrested; white men and women of color are about twice as likely to be arrested and four times as likely to be searched. Men of color are between twice and 3 times as likely to be arrested or searched as white men or women of… Read more »
