It’s taken me a few years to realize the true value of life. At one point life was just day to day, just getting through the day… living for the weekend essentially.
Now I realize life is every moment and every day. It’s admiring the unusual shape of a tree (I love trees) or it’s walking home loaded with groceries and getting caught in a torrential downpour.
Life is reading a magazine while waiting for your clothes to dry at your neighbourhood laundromat. Life is those moments with your family, friends and loved ones. Even when you screw up dinner and burn everything.
Take a deep breath and inhale the moment. Each and every moment matters.
. . .
Dear Lovely:
- Nourish your friendships and cherish them, you’ve had some pretty great ones.
- Spend more time with family, they love you truly.
- Sit down with your parents and actually ask them questions. You had far fewer years with them than expected. Make the most of the time you have.
- Ask mom to write a story about her life. It would have been an amazing story to read.
- You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and that’s okay. You won’t ever need to go for tea with those people.
- Jealousy is poison. Life is too short. Either trust someone or not. If you’re in the latter, then let them go. No partner is worth excessive pain.
- Real love should not foster insecurities, and always love yourself first.
- Happiness is our responsibility, don’t rely on others for your emotional well-being.
- Don’t waste energy being angry, it changes nothing, either forgive or move on.
- Don’t allow loneliness to enter your life, fill the void with yourself, your wants and your plans.
- This is a big one, humility is a good thing, it’s probably one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Arrogance is exhausting.
- Love nature. Really love it. Nature is one thing in life that is constant.
- Appreciate family more.
- Save money… honestly, invest and save.
- Think about the future, really think about where you want to be. You will have endless opportunities. Take them, before they’re gone.
- Pay attention to your guidance counsellor. Education is our friend.
- Travel travel travel. Put money aside, and travel the world while you’re young.
- Hangovers get way worse when you’re older
- Eat healthier because you won’t be 25 forever.
- Exercise and keep moving. You will appreciate it when your 40.
- Enjoy your youth. It’s a fact, we do age.
- Don’t just live for the weekends, live for Mondays and Tuesdays too.
- Respect the work/life balance.
- This may come as a shock but there’s a whole world outside. Step away from the TV, better yet run.
- Life is and always will be larger than our problems. When you’re having a bad day, breathe… seek out nature and stay there until its beauty relays to you how small your problems actually are.
Life is an amazing gift, learn to love it because it’s yours, no one else’s. Treat yourself like your own best friend. Remember, bad moments in life do not define life, they are life moments. They are experiences.
Love Forever, K.
PS. Don’t worry, 50 is great by the way!
