The literal translation is “Unity Makes Strength”. It’s the official Brooklyn motto, and the underlying motif beneath everything motivating the County of Kings. The power of community. The belief that we are stronger together than we are apart.
Brooklyn is (arguably) the most diverse place on earth. More ethnicities, more religions, more cultures, all shoved on top of each other, and yet: we manage not to kill each other. That’s because at the end of the day, we don’t care what gods you worship, what language you speak, or what your sexual preference is.
What counts here is: Is your word as good as your handshake? Can you look me in the eye and live up to what you say you can do? When it’s done, can we pour a drink and argue over everything from the Knicks (they suck) The MoMa (overrated) best hot dogs (Grays Papaya OBVIOUSLY), while still respecting the right to each others (sometimes idiotic) beliefs?
That’s MY Brooklyn. In the immortal words of Biggie Smalls: Spread love. Its the Brooklyn Way.
