The temple seems a natural part of the land! Much more than the shopping malls, hotels, and stations of Kyoto. It seems like it’s been around forever and it’s as much a part of the mountain as its trees and bushes.
This temple one of my favorite places in Japan because of its size. It sprawls all around the mountain and there are hundreds of small shrines, thousands of sculptures and more than 10,000 Torii gates. In the beginning there are way too many people for it to be enjoyable, but the higher up you go, the more relaxing and interesting it gets.
Every single one of the 10,000 gates has been donated by an individual. an organization, or a company from anywhere around the world. Their names are inscribed on the gates in Japanese characters. The prices start from 400,000 yen and go up to a million and even more!
After all those stairs, I had a latte that tasted like green tea. I’m obsessed with green tea flavors in Japan, you can literally find anything that tastes like green tea, including candy, pancakes, chocolate, buns and so much more. It was too expensive, but tasted great!
I don’t really have a religious belief, so I feel that every belief is equally mine and not mine. Currently I’m trying to be as open-minded as possible and thus am interested in absolutely every religion and its origins.
