The Man Box says, “Be a ‘real man’ or pay the price.” But for millions of American men, its time to break the hell out.
—
American men face the rules of the Man Box every day of their lives. The Man Box defines and limits how we are expected to perform manhood.
It starts with little boys having the “man up” and continues all our lives. It defines how we are to behave both publicly and in our most private moments. It affects how we perform gender, sexuality, friendship, family, work, and parenting at every possible level. The rules of the Man Box are very clear and the price we pay for not staying inside the man box can result in violence up to and including even being murdered.
The message is simple: Be a “real man” or pay the price.
But for millions of American men, its time to break the hell out. Here’s how.

Mark, this is fantastic. I will be sharing everywhere. Women need to watch this as well. Well done. I believe the confines of th Man Box had a role in my 47 yo husband leaving me out of the blue. We are now getting divorced. I hope for his sake and our kids’ he gets this but sadly, I don’t think he will (other isuues prevail). Nonetheless, great, informative video.
