A few years ago, I initiated a ritual each New Years Eve in which I release what no longer serves in my life and call in what I desire.
Here goes:
I release- anger, fear, worry, disgust, disdain, guilt, shame and blame, anything I have done that caused myself or others pain and anything from the past that I can’t go back and change. I let go of co-dependence, workaholism, imposter syndrome, anxiety, hopelessness, helplessness, self-deprecation, competition, comparison, jealousy, envy, illness and injury.
There are more, but those are the biggies.
I call in- love, healing, bliss, blessings, goodness, kindness, caring, abundance, prosperity, total well being, beauty in body, mind and spirit, connection, healthy relationships, honesty, integrity, color, creativity, opportunities, success, peacemaking, cosmic coincidences, pine design, anam cara (soul friend) meetings, miracles and magic.
I liked the way it felt so much, that I decided to incorporate it as a daily practice that I engage in while in the shower. Afterward, I feel cleansed physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I see the turning of the calendar page from one year to the next, to be a time of transition, rich with possibility. I have no clue of events that await on the other side, but I know I have both the freedom and responsibility of co-creating the work of art that it can become. My intention and prayer is that 2025 be a year of positive change for the world. It won’t happen on its own. We need all of us to feed the collective soup pot. For those of us who are experiencing a full range of emotions about what is threatening to happen as a result of the 2024 election, it is an especially important call to action. In the Jewish tradition, there is a concept called Tikkun Olam which translates to ‘repair of the world’. I have my tools to mend the rend in the fabric of the world in the form of the written and spoken word.
What will you bring to the next 12 months? I plan to bring my A-game. I expect my family and friends to call me on it, if I don’t. I create what I call New Year’s Re-Soul-utions. Rather than the typical resolutions that people break within days after making them, I set intentions and put legs under them to see them to fruition.
I ask myself at the turning of the year, who I was in the year just passed and who I will be in the year awaiting me on the other side of the threshold. Who will you be at the closing of the year?
Wishing you all a healthy, Happy New Year where peace and healing for the planet abounds. It can’t happen without all of us doing our part. Here’s to it
