It’s either—take a time out or burn out.

The tempo of life these days seems to be getting faster and faster, resulting in a growing number of men leading busier lives. It seems more difficult to take some time off for self-care. It becomes second nature to become so immersed in work and an endless number of tasks on a daily to-do list that guys have forgotten how to put themselves first.
Taking a break once in awhile is absolutely essential for your overall health and well-being.

Taking care of yourself and taking a break from work is extremely important for both your physical and mental health. If you work too much and don’t take a break from time to time, not only will you feel exhausted, but you will also become stressed out, which can harm your health in more ways than one. If you are a workaholic, you must realize the importance of stepping on the brakes and slowing down sometimes, so you can feel better and ultimately improve the quality of your life.
Here are 3 health tips that will greatly help you on your path to a better life.
Spend Some Time Alone
Devoting time only to yourself and your needs can do wonders for your health. It can help you unwind and reboot your brain, making you feel more relaxed than you ever thought was possible. Take a day off work and spend some time alone in the comfort of your home. Unplug from every electronic device and enjoy the silence.
Immerse yourself in a good book and enter the awesome world of literature that will make the whole world around you fade away, ultimately making you feel better than ever before. Take a hot bath and wash off every problem you may have and every work task overloading your brain. Read a magazine or watch your favorite TV show—do anything that will make you restart and feel like yourself again.
Breathe in Some Fresh Air
Going outside for a walk can make you feel a lot happier and can help you take your mind off anything that may be bothering you. It is an excellent therapy for both your body and your mind and you should add it to your list of daily routines as soon as possible. Take a walk to and from work and breathe in some fresh air that will make you feel unbelievably better. Soak up the sun and enrich your body with vitamin D that offers incredible benefits to your health.
Immerse yourself in some exercise and go for a run. Putting your body in motion will provide you with more energy, not to mention it will improve your health immensely. Think about going camping and enjoying nature around you. Taking a vacation with family and friends will provide you with so much calm and happiness that you will forget all about being overwhelmed and stressed out from work.
Never Underestimate the Power of Regular Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. You need to have at least eight hours of sleep on a regular basis in order to be able to start each and every new day feeling fresh and ready to take on anything life throws at you.
Turn off all of the electronic devices around you and take a really good rest. The most important thing for quality sleep is, obviously, your bed. If it’s not comfortable, you will wake up everyday feeling even more tired and exhausted than the night before. Your bed must be as comfortable as possible, so you should invest in a good air mattress in order to be able to sleep like a baby and start each day with a smile on your face.

I agreed with Mr. Russer’s views; however, as long as we let bosses dictated that work is more important than having a balance between work and play, men will still become slaves to work. The USA is way behind with it comes vacation and sick leave time plus having a culture attitude that if you are idle, you are lazy, shiftless, and you are not worth much if you are not producing.
These are excellent tips Alexandra –yet it still begs the question as to why so many men end up as workaholics in the first place. I think as men, we put so much importance on what we do and accomplish that it becomes part of how we define ourselves as men (think of the modern-day warrior or hunter/gatherer). All the tips in the world are not really going to help if a man has this strong urge to keep producing because of his underlying belief that is where his worth comes from. I personally believe (as a fully-recovering workaholic) that… Read more »
Well said, though I feel that articles like this one can serve as that initial spark to get you to examine your lifestyle and confront the fact you are in dire need of change. No tip or advice, be it online or given to us by friends and family, can get us to start making a change – we need to make that mental shift ourselves. However, it’s often these little “obvious” and “simple” tips that people forget about or brush aside, and it’s sticking to these small things religiously and turning them into daily habits that actually helps usher… Read more »
