“This is great, such a touching article. I’m only 18 but just thinking of each of these tips critically, I feel like I’ve taken my father for granted. I’m selfish, always complaining, ‘Why does it have to be what you want to do? Why don’t we do something I want to do!?’
“Reading this from a different perspective has showed me how hard my father tried to bond with me and how much I pushed him away. I thought he didn’t know better but in actuality, he knew/knows more than I ever will. Luckily for me, he’s still young (but of course getting older as the years go, as I grow too) and I still have time to make up for my ways. Thank you for this!”

My father is my favourite person. When he was young, his mom died due to a drunk driver in the other car. Before I was born, his father died due to illness. Both of them were strangers to me, and I realised quite young that I never wanted my father to be a stranger. I went through a phase where I asked him incessant questions about himself, all of which he answered with more than a reasonable amount of patience. I could probably write a biography about him. My little brother bullied me when I was a kid, making up names and making them popular among friends, family and strangers. When I asked why he treated me that way, the women at home said that it was because my father spoiled him. That was went I broke my relationship with the man; I avoided him, rejected his hugs, besides being afraid of him, since he had alcohol and rage problems. He died when I was 14.
Now when I hear people talking about him, I wish I had met that man.
Spend time with your father! No matter how busy you seem to be, or how lame his activity is. My father passed away on December 7, 2011, and I hardly ever did anything with him. When he passed away I realized how little I knew him. I’m sad thinking about all the activities my father tried using to bond with me.
