This is about the Democratic party. And the press. But mostly the Democratic party.
I have been asked, on many, many occasions by friends who don’t follow politics as closely as I do, why Republicans have been able to win with candidates who are such obvious losers.
I always tell them the same thing–it is a one-word answer. That answer is UNITY. No matter what kind of dumpster fire they have got going, they are all on board with it.
Democrats, on the other hand? Just threw over the most successful President of my lifetime. Perhaps the last President of my lifetime.
Joe Biden is not a man who could ever masquerade as the elite–that is why is won the Presidency with the most votes ever cast for a candidate in 2020. His appeal is broad because, in spite of being a career politician, he is one of us. His commitment to a better country for everyone, not just the top 1%, was unwavering.
I am not going to list his many accomplishments–they are easy to Google. I am not going to reiterate his incredible life journey for the same reason. If you cared, you would already know.
While I will obviously vote for Kamala Harris (or whoever this fickle party chooses to run), the abandonment of the Captain who steered us out of the incredible sh*tstorm his opponent created seems like madness. He beat Trump, he fixed what Trump broke and he is the best person equipped to finish the job.
I am sure most “non elite” Democrats would agree with that.
But while the Republicans lock step with the most dangerous Presidential candidate in the history of the United States, we have just taken away the known (and very successful) commodity that some of those “undecided” voters might have swayed to, in the end. But anyone who was not fully committed to Joe (and who believes Trump is an actual option) is very unlikely to vote for Harris. There, I said it. If she wasn’t convincing as second in command, they sure as heck won’t want her in charge.
I don’t understand how this is not obvious to everyone.
Or maybe it is?
O Captain, My Captain…thank you for keeping us safe these past 4 years. I respect and admire you and hope with all of my heart that your good work will not be pulled apart by the next administration. But in either case, your legacy will be one of greatness. I hope you know that.

Democracy has always been bigger than one man, and history will look kindly upon President Joe Biden.
Thanks. I think it’s true–President Biden is a caring person, and, considering the malignancy of his opposition, one of America’s most successful presidents. The job, now, as you made clear, is for Democrats to actually unite behind the greater and existential mission of winning the Presidency & Congress– and saving a now fragile democracy from those who’ve been doing all they could to replace it with a dictatorship.
