Struggling for date inspiration? Keep it exciting by trying something new.

Whether it’s a first date, a tenth date, or it’s been too many to keep track, we all need a little inspiration from time to time. In the early stages there is the pressure to impress, and after a while there is the need to keep things fresh and new. Dating doesn’t come with a rule book, and together with Oakwood Doors we’ve compiled a list of 6 great alternative dates to help break the mould. It’s nice to mix it up a little every now and again.
1.) A bit of healthy competition never goes amiss, especially on a first date, as having something else to focus on can break the ice and give you stuff to talk about. Bowling is great, but it’s been done quite a lot, why not go and play crazy golf or table football? If you live in a bigger city you might even be able to find a bar with old arcade games, so can mix a few drinks with a bit of fun.
2.) Sun permitting, a good old fashioned picnic can make for a great day. Combine some tasty food with some people watching and an idyllic setting and you’ve got a recipe for success. If people watching isn’t your thing, find somewhere a little off the grid and earn your lunch with a leisurely stroll first. Picnicking is a dying art form, but it makes a great change from a restaurant, and it can save you a pretty penny too.
3.) If you decide to eat out, why not spread the 3 courses over 3 different restaurants. It may sound a little strange, but it can be great fun going from place to place to try different things. Get your starter at a little food stall, head to a restaurant for your main, then finish at an ice cream parlour for dessert. The options are endless with this one, and it makes a nice change from the norm.
4.) Pretend to be a tourist in your hometown. We don’t mean you should walk around with a map and binoculars (not that any tourists really do that), but take a look at your home with fresh eyes. Likelihood is you’ll think you’ve done everything a million times, but often this isn’t the case. Get yourself online and see if there are any cool pop up shops or eateries you can go to, or go and revisit some of the places you went on school trips.
5.) Take a class together. This might be one for a little further down the line, but learning something together can be super fun and gives you something new to talk about. Get a little risqué and go to a life drawing class, or dust off your dancing cobwebs and take a salsa lesson together. If you’re big foodies, instead of eating out together go to a cookery class and make your dinner there. There and hundreds of things you can try together, and you’re bound to find something you both enjoy.
6.) If music be the food of love, play on! Get yourself to a local gig or jazz night and enjoy the atmosphere, preferably check out their soundcloud before hand to make sure they’re your thing, but even if the music turns out to be terrible you’ll still have a laugh. Challenge each other to dance the worst or sing the loudest and make it interesting.
We have had lots of love bloom @uncabaret if you are in Los Angeles, deep laughing together, very bonding. Our show is not confrontational or divisive, pitting men against women essentially. And the food is not too heavy, just in case you need to feel light ‘on your feet’ afterwards.
