In this day and age, we have so many different factors that consume our energy, from social media scrolling to procrastinating too much.
It’s hard man. It’s hard to get out of these cycles and it’s even harder to start new habits. But when you don’t know what habits could be a detriment to you, how do you know what to change and what habits to break?
Sometimes as humans, we overcomplicate things. The simple things in life make us happy, so why can’t it be the simple things in life that can improve our lives?
Let’s get into 4 simple habits that are possibly killing your energy…
A Shit Sleep
People really underestimate the power of sleep.
Some think it is normal to sleep for 4 hours and that is enough to power them through the day. Our bodies need to rejuvenate, replenish and recharge you for the next day, the next, and so on.
Poor sleep can lead to an increase in the body’s production of cortisol — the stress hormone. So If I sleep more, there’s a higher chance I will be less stressed? Yes.
If you struggle with shitty sleep, try the 10, 3, 2, 1 rule:
- No caffeine 10 hours before you sleep
- No food or alcohol 3 hours before you sleep
- No work 2 hours before you sleep
- No screen time 1 hour before you sleep
Scrolling First Thing In The Morning
Your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day, so make sure you set it right!
Imagine waking up feeling groggy and instantly picking up your phone and filling your brain with unearned dopamine. You’ve started your day with content or information that has probably not done anything for your life.
Here are some tips:
- Keep your phone out of reach
- Set a ‘no phone rule’ until you have completed your morning productive tasks
- Imagine that your phone is a distraction and does not benefit you in any way.
Holding onto Anger
Ahhh, holding anger in your heart is such a chore. We’ve all been there, and some of us are still there. When you hold onto anger, it’s like you’re stopping the poison from leaving your body because you think holding it in will make the other person die.
But the sad truth is that it only kills you.
Holding onto anger will not change the past or what has happened. But forgiveness will allow you to let situations go and free yourself from the weight of resentment.
Forgive – not for them, but for you.
Not Getting Your Ass Up
A lot of us have jobs that consist of us sitting at the screen for the whole day to the point our bums are getting dumb and our hips are getting bigger. Our bodies are designed to move, not be in a stagnant position for 10 hours!
Don’t make your health a long-term expense that you have to deal with. Make it an investment.
Are you having trouble getting active? Try these:
- Find an activity you enjoy
- Start with a walk every day and gradually increase the intensity
- Schedule time to exercise
Make These Simple Changes Today
I’ve kept it short and snappy for a reason.
These 4 bad habits seem so small in some people’s eyes, but it is a big challenge for others. Some have a scrolling addiction and lose 6 hours of their day to it.
Some people wake up feeling cranky every morning and take it out on their family because they’ve been overworking before they go to sleep.
Breaking bad habits can be hard, that’s why starting with simple changes will help you overcome the challenges you are facing with current bad habits.
Baby steps allow you to take big leaps!
Slow and steady wins the race right?
