Dad, how do I?

Hey, kids! In this video, I’m partnering with Firestone to go behind the scenes and speak with Nick Bly, one of the techs at my local Firestone. But before we get started, here’s a dad joke for you: I had a joke about a flat tire, but I decided to spare you from it. I’m sure you’ve heard them all before!
Nick, as a fellow dad, let’s celebrate fatherhood. How old is your boy, and does he enjoy sports or getting his hands dirty with wrenches? Oh, he’s five years old and more into Hot Wheels and Legos right now. Kids and their Hot Wheels, right?
Now, let’s talk about becoming a tech at Firestone. You can either go to a tech school and get a two-year degree or join Firestone directly with no experience and receive in-house training. Nick himself went to tech school and has been with Firestone for an impressive 17 years.
Let’s dive into some tire-related topics. First, TPMS stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It uses sensors within your tires to monitor tire pressure, helping you avoid low pressure and its negative impacts on fuel economy and performance.
To check tire tread, you can use the penny trick. Insert a penny with Lincoln’s head facing down into the tread. If you can see the top of his head, your tires are at or below the legal tread limit and need replacement.
Next, tire size can be confusing, but Nick breaks it down for us. For example, “P235/75R15 105S” means it’s a passenger tire, 235mm wide, with a sidewall height of 75% of the width, suitable for a 15-inch rim, and has a load and speed rating of 105S.
Now, let’s discuss the importance of alignment. Proper alignment not only maximizes tire life but also enhances handling and protects your investment in those expensive tires.
Tire rotation is another essential maintenance practice. It involves moving tires from the front to the back to ensure even wear and extend their lifespan. Firestone offers free tire rotation every 5,000 miles.
Firestone also has a helpful YouTube channel that emphasizes the importance of car maintenance. They aim to inform customers about tire care, alignment, and overall vehicle health without any pressure to upsell.
In closing, we’ve learned that the folks at Firestone, like Nick, are dedicated professionals striving to do their best. So, remember, when you visit a Firestone location, you’re dealing with a human just like you, looking out for their family and providing top-notch service.
I hope you found this video insightful and enjoyed our chat with Nick. Thanks for watching, and may God bless you all!
