Fit Mom

I’m a mom of two boys. My boyfriend, Terrence, and I have been together for 12 years. Terrence works as a car salesman here in Arizona and is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. I work as a Marketing Operations Architect and build marketing campaigns to ensure sales leads are being properly routed and nurtured through the computer system. I’m also an avid fitness fanatic and acquired my NASM CPT fitness training certification in 2016. I love writing and started a blog The Sometimes Single Mom. I enjoy watching my son play football as well as cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (Go Big Red)! I also love to read and learn something new each day to keep my mind sharp.
Quote.
Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other one thing. – Abe Lincoln
What I do well as a mom.
I am an incredibly disciplined parent, who establishes routine and structure for and with my children. I feel this skill helps me run a happy and smooth household.
What I learned from another mom.
I learned the power of positive reinforcement from my mom. Teach a child he or she can accomplish anything through hard work and a commitment to make his or her dreams a reality.
Lesson I learned from my child.
Time is a limited resource and there is never enough of it. When your child begs for 30 minutes of your time to play a game, just do it! The cleaning can wait, the laundry can wait… those thirty minutes of play will mean more to them in ten years than a clean house ever will.
Successful motherhood moment.
My son Keylen and I were walking down the street when we encountered a homeless man. He was dressed in very dirty clothes, looked ragged and tired. Nevertheless, he was shouting “hi” to everyone who walked by and waving his hands. Most just walked by without a second glance, but as we approached, my son stopped directly in front of him and responded “hi” and waved back. The man lifted his head and smiled. Keylen smiled and told him to have a good day. As we walked away he said “what a nice guy…” with no regard to his status or demeanor. To him, he was just another kind soul saying hello.
Mom I admire.
My mother, Gretchen. She is patient, kind, and thoughtful. She taught me to try my very best in all that I do and if we stumble, it is not a failure but a learning experience. She also taught us that being kind and caring towards others costs you nothing and to spend more time listening and less time talking.
