Dear Kaz,
Twelve years old! That’s a big one. It’s not as big as the dinosaurs you love, but you’re one step closer to becoming a teenager.

It’s a pleasure to see you growing into a young man. I am impressed with your discipline to swim nearly every day of the week. With every practice, you’re getting stronger and faster.
Your mother and I enjoyed seeing you compete in the Junior Olympics meet. While you didn’t win a medal this year, we know you did your best. Doing your best is most important.

In just a few weeks, you will begin 7th grade. Don’t worry, your big brother will look out for you.
Remember to apply the lessons you’ve learned from swimming to your studies. Here are a few for you to think about.
1. Be willing to work hard. Complete your homework assignments, ask questions in class, study for exams, and read every day.
2. Make friends. Treat your classmates with respect. Stay true to yourself and extend kindness to everyone in the school building.
3. Go fast and slow. In gym class and on recess, use your speed, muscles, and endurance. During science, math, English, and other subjects, take your time and learn the teacher’s lesson.
I know today is your birthday, and the last thing you want to do is listen to a lecture from me. You mentioned wanting to go to Sky Zone. I can’t make any promises.
It will depend on your mother’s schedule and availability. You have plenty to keep you busy around the house and at the nearby parks.
Enjoy the skateboard from your Auntie Brittany and the ramp from your mother and me. Do an ollie or something else that makes you smile today.
Happy birthday!
I love you,
Dad
