“What am I going to tell my kids tomorrow?”
Hopefully, what you tell them everyday. How brilliant, beautiful and badass they are. That losing this election doesn’t invalidate the ideals we hold dear and winning this election doesn’t make sexism, racism, homophobia or a lack of basic facts, intellect or literacy exemplars of the human condition.
Wanting a thing is different then having. The dog that chases the car that catches it and has no idea what to do with it is instructive.
Democrats can’t win and Republicans can’t govern. ‘Tis an old truism that you will see played out over the next four years that those in our midst who supported this Buffon will find that out once the Orange One can’t deliver an America that’s an episode of MAD MEN.
Women aren’t going back in the kitchen.
People of Color aren’t getting written out of the show.
Gays aren’t going back into the closet.
Fuck that noise.
Now is the time to get to work. You might actually have to get your hands dirty. You might need to go outside your little comfort zone.
Now is the time to resist. If you believe in all this freedom and democracy you espouse then start where you are, use what you have, do what you can to ensure that you and yours see a brighter day.
One Orange monkey can’t stop the show.
Or you can roll over and show your belly.
Your choice.
Lick your wounds tonight.
Get to work tomorrow.
