Lead Editor, Mike Kasdan, talks Good Men Project and Good Men Project Sports in Live Appearance on Radio Amerika Now
—
On March 14, 2015, Radio Amerika Now interviewed our Lead Editor and the Senior Sports Editor, Mike Kasdan, on its radio program.
Michael spoke about the mission of The Good Men Project, how he came to the GMP, and the growth and development of the voice and unique point of view of Good Men Project Sports:
“It’s not like your traditional ESPN-type sports coverage . . . We’re really looking to use sports as an accessible platform to talk about social issues. For example, we talk about youth sports, which cuts across parenting. And last year, if you followed football, you couldn’t help but be talking about issues of domestic violence, with Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson . . . . We’re trying to develop a voice that is 50% playful and looking at sports and what is beautiful about it and 50% serious, talking about these sorts of hard-core issues.”
The conversation ranged from gender issues, to parenting, relationships, business, male friendship, education, mental health, social change, and the changing role of men in today’s society:
“From the aspect of the changing roles of manhood, [The Good Men Project] is trying to foster a conversation that really looks at men as whole people, rather than the traditional view that men should be more closed off emotionally . . . and in today’s world it’s a very fascinating and important conversation . . . . The issues cut across the sexes. They are men’s issues, but they are also women’s issues. They are our issues. So, if we aren’t having everyone at the table, we’re just talking to ourselves. So it is is inclusive.”
