I have a confession: I used to be that rookie cyclist who rode on sidewalks and widely paved dog-walking paths.
After today, I am not that woman anymore.
I rode up to my favorite coffee shop this morning, taking the backroads and familiar meek trails. Then, something inside me snapped. I flipped-a-b, crossed the street, and finally took up space in the bike lane by myself. Truth be told, until today, I only dared to drive in the bike lane (with oh-so-unforgiving traffic) if I wasn’t riding solo.
Not today, my friends — not today.
I’m living life in the bike lane now, taking up space where I belong — with that white line in my rearview.
My sneaking suspicion tells me that the Eagles weren’t talking about bike lane lines in that song — but I thought I was rather witty for the play on words, nonetheless.
