The lesson of believing in myself while smiling through hardship has been difficult for me to do at times. Surrounded by differing viewpoints and attitudes at all times only intensified the confusion I had with who and what I am. Pride and ego are important; who would want a low self-esteem?
“When the going gets tough the tough gets going”, and how true these words are! Whenever I have failed, I was still encouraged to move forward with my dreams and aspirations. Life is filled with ups and downs, but the goal is to not get sucked into a wormhole, but to instead keep fighting until what you want is achieved. While it seems that men have been socially constructed to be the bread winners and the protectors of a relationship, and thus being mechanical versus having feelings, this other half of existence has been helping me to become more patient with myself and with others.
These “hidden heroes” are caring and would want to see you succeed and be happy about yourself! It is true that sheer arrogance and dominance can overpower the male population, but having a sense of confidence is an important quality in both men and women in fueling forward. It is this aspect of confidence that just as quickly, men can be perceived as being rough and tough. Our lives are becoming more complicated where daily living is a growing cost to meet, where it would be only natural that one can be driven to anger and impatience towards others. It does take courage to “break out of the mold” though by recognizing the difference of being a tough guy and a gentleman, and that we are all in this together. Remembering mutual respect would be the only thing that would take us through after all!
