It’s easy to forget that men are just as emotional and crave connection as much as women do. Society has conditioned them to suppress their emotions. In this conversation, we dive into trust, jealousy, the male perspective, and finding a meaningful relationship.
Candace Hawback’s Unique Insights
I’ve gained some surprising insights about men throughout my experiences. Many men, even those who’ve been married for decades, are starving for emotional connection. It’s crucial to understand that they desire intimacy, not just in a sexual context, but in genuine emotional connection. We, as women, should not dismiss them as emotionally void; rather, we need to create a safe space for them to express themselves.
Teaching Emotion and Vulnerability
It’s essential to teach our kids, especially boys, that it’s okay to express their feelings. As a mother, I’m determined to create an environment where my son knows it’s alright to cry and be vulnerable. It’s a misconception that men need to be emotionally closed-off to be masculine. Vulnerability can strengthen a relationship.
Helping Avoidant Partners Open Up
If you’re in a relationship with an avoidant partner, there are practical ways to encourage them to open up consistently. One method is modeling the behavior you want to see. Share your emotions and experiences openly. Give them time to process and don’t assume it’s not working if they don’t respond immediately.
Another powerful exercise is eye gazing. Whether alone or with your partner, it can help you connect on a deeper level. It’s essential to work on your ability to be comfortable with yourself to establish better connections with others.
It’s important to understand that men are not emotionless beings. They, too, crave connection and have a desire for intimacy. Instead of writing them off or suppressing their emotions, create a safe space for them to be vulnerable. In doing so, you’ll foster deeper and more meaningful relationships.
