No Matter What, Don’t Forget Ukraine

As the U.S. and Israel drop bombs on Iran, bombs on Lebanon, as shipping lanes close, people die, cities turned to rubble, don’t forget Ukraine.

As the cost of living ever increases, energy and grocery prices spiking, healthcare expenses out of control for so many, home ownership dreams slipping away, higher education more out of reach, don’t forget Ukraine.

As an autocratic regime attempts to shred its founding documents, imperial ballroom, triumphal arch planned as government thugs harass, deport and kill suspected “illegals,” don’t forget Ukraine.

As China maintains its sights on Taiwan, cyber security increasingly threatens, hacking continues, sides posture for world dominance, don’t forget Ukraine.

As traditional U.S. allies are alienated, pushed to a distance, intimidated and disrespected, famous and successful coalitions are in jeopardy of collapse, realignment is in the works, don’t forget Ukraine.

As wealth and income gaps within and between nations ever widen, inequities increase as oligarchs gain and control amplified power while the vast majority are increasingly marginalized and dominated, don’t forget Ukraine.

As the world hunger crisis increases, diseases spread, new potentially extreme pandemics are just on the horizon, don’t forget Ukraine.

As global climate pollution raises the threat of recurrent and more severe storms, droughts, floods, increasing migratory displacements, disease, endangerment of species, don’t forget Ukraine.

As civil and human rights protections are repealed, and as our rights to control our own bodies, especially for women and transgender people, are legislated away, don’t forget Ukraine.

As Artificial Intelligence poses an existential threat to humanity and our environment, don’t forget Ukraine.

As political divisions harden, civil and cross border wars more likely, families split apart, enmities hardened, resolutions becoming distant hopes, don’t forget Ukraine.

As the definition of the “outsider” has expanded to include residents from within one’s own country, as color still separates and immigration status villainizes some and valorizes others, don’t forget about Ukraine.

As “gender ideology,” “Critical Race Theory,” and “Diversity Equity & Inclusion” have become catch phrases for a supposed radical leftist agenda, as banned books and other curricular materials have expanded under the guise of stopping an “evil” woke takeover while mandates are pushed to toe the dominant ideological line, and as critical consciousness and independent thought have become somehow subversive, don’t forget Ukraine.

But also, as selective fascist regimes like those in Bulgaria, Hungary, and the United States have lost or are losing grip on power as the grassroots have sprouted and grown in strength and power signaling a new dawn on the horizon, don’t forget Ukraine.

As brave and courageous astronauts circumnavigate the Moon showing us never-before scenes and venturing into space further than previously recorded, don’t forget Ukraine.

And yes, as Winnie the Pooh celebrates the milestone of its 100^th birthday and we all send good wishes for at least 100 more, don’t forget Ukraine.

Keep in mind that children of 10 or 12 or 15 know nothing but war as Russia continues its relentless assault on its sovereign neighbor in the autocrat’s quest of restoring his nation to an imperial past of conquest and suppression, as the strongest power in the world sides with the invader, and very little movement appears on the peace front.

The mad dictator cares not how many of his military are cut down in the meat grinder of combat and how many civilians he slaughters on the other side in his ever-accumulating war crimes as he envisions his pipe dream of renewed empire.

The ruling U.S. regime has betrayed, abandoned, and forgotten Ukraine.

We the People must remain forever vigilant by upping our commitment and support to the people, their cultural heritage, and the land of the great nation of Ukraine. When we support Ukraine, we support freedom everywhere.

History will judge our responses.
