Reflections on Life

We follow the calendar, counting the days, months, and years. We race against time, in an invisible line that ends on the day of our death.

Our destiny is unique and irreversible, and yet we don’t live in the present because we are worried about tomorrow, or lamenting about yesterday.

We want good people around us, but we are not always good when we have the chance to be present in someone’s life.

We want to be loved but many times we are not lovable.

We want world peace but we can’t even maintain peace with our neighbors.

We want everything out of life, but we are not always willing to give up something to truly live.

We want to end world hunger, but we look at beggars with disgust and contempt, and we understand little about what charity really is.

We beat our chests to impose our desire to be respected, but we do not offer our seat to pregnant women, the elderly, or disabled people.

We turn up our noses at homeless people, we are afraid, thinking that they are all bandits, some unfortunately still judge the brothers who have a different skin color than theirs.

We condemn the choices of others as if we were God, but we are the first to scream in the marches demanding the end of prejudice, racism, and inequality.

Life is a contradiction, yes, and the only thing we can do is make it as beautiful as possible, do our part always, give our best every day, and above all, live instead of just existing.

If you had the opportunity to speak with death before it was your time to die, perhaps as in the movie, it would tell you not to forget to see the hidden beauty, not to get lost in the distractions of the path that prevent you from being happy, so live today, now and now, because it might be too late soon.
