There is a moment where marriage finally grows from the dewy, romantic flower of first love into the strong, oak like tree of real love, true love.
Nothing can shake this structure, not the deaths of one’s parents, not miscarriages, not cancer, not a loss of income. Miscommunication can bend its branches a little; but not enough to make them snap.
Within those branches rest our babies, secure in the solidity of what we call “us.” When the wind blows, or the rain comes, we simply huddle closer, sure that when it passes we’ll still be here, roots dug deep.
