Chris Forte on making a clean path for himself and others.

I have always enjoyed running. For years it was a form of meditation for me, while getting some exercise at the same time. Meditation combined with movement is part of the Spiritual Fitness Movement we have created.
About five years ago something cool happened while I was running that I wish I had recorded in my journal. As I was running I heard a voice, the voice from my heart, intuition, GOD, whatever you want to call it, say, “Pick up the garbage on the ground.” It was so profound that I immediately starting picking up everything in my sight. As I was running, I would jet across the street pick up something and would find garbage cans along the way. I continued this for my whole run which is normally a nice 4.5 mile scenic route with my dog.
I continued this for a few days on my run, but felt this was now becoming overwhelming. Everyday you can see some litter everywhere; what should I do? Run around picking litter up everywhere, start some organization to cleanup Mother Earth…? What now? Well, that beautiful voice, clear as day, came back in and said, “Stay on your path.”
From that day on, I made a commitment that anytime I’m on a run or walking and see litter on my path, I will pick it up. Now, I can write to those who may see this and share this very simple message: pick up any litter on your path for your Mother Earth.
This can also be applied to our daily lives as we each go down our individual path. At times we can be pulled in many directions to take us off of our path. It is our inner knowing that we need to be aware of–that we might be the ones creating that pull…
Live Brave,
Chris
