My favorite new thing these days is a organic group of 8-10 folks who have been going into the ocean at Pleasant Bay at 6:20 every Thursday (sunrise) after a 2 mile run. Followed by a diner breakfast for fellowship. If you live in the Boston area please join us.
Last week I did 6 min at 44 degrees but you can jump in and out if that suits your fancy. Great group of friendly and interesting people. (just checked and looks like 41 now)
If you have been following me for a while you know I am a Wim Hof fanatic (you can learn more about him here) and have been going cold water swimming with my friend Dave at Walden Pond for several years and taking cold showers every morning. So this is a bit of new thing. And it’s not.
Something about the sun rise that is so spiritual to me.
We spread my sister-in-laws ashes here in October of 2020 ( ) so I always think about her and send her kids pictures when I go.
And there is something bad ass about going in the ocean all winter. It’s amazing how much our bodies change during the first 90 seconds in the water. We adjust as the blood flows to the core. And my experience is of euphoria. The key is breathing through that first 90 seconds to relax rather than clutching.
A related resource:
Wim Hof breathing to be used going into cold water or if you are just needing to relax on a stressful day, this youtube is 11 minutes of gold IMO:
COME JOIN US any Thursday at 6:20 at the flagpole at Pleasant Bay in South Boston. You can hit me on 617 513 2734 for details.
