I have had the upcoming debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump on September 10th, on my dance card since she was tapped to be the Democratic nominee. It almost feels like a WWE wrestling match between the ‘Felon’ and the ‘Prosecutor’ in the ring. It occurs at the end of a long work day for me but I think it will re-energize me to watch it. A few things I know for sure, he will lie and ramble incoherently and his followers will cheer and say, “Yeh, that’s our guy,” no matter what he says, who he insults, and what he vows to do. I know that she will be direct and on the offensive, calling him out at every turn. I am admittedly bummed that there will be a mute button that will prevent him from entertaining himself with his typical outbursts. Fortunately, his face and body language will betray him. I want the country, once and for all, especially those who support him, to see him for who he is. The Emperor has long had no clothes.
Remember that his accusations are his admissions.
I had an insight that if Kamala Harris stands up to DT in the debate and pushes back against his lies and bullying tactics, it should prove her strength to anyone who believes that she would be a pushover for other male world leaders and that they wouldn’t respect her. Although there is a major height differential as he is a foot taller, she is a formidable presence. She will have dignity behind her. She will have servant leadership as her intention. She will have the best interest of the entire country in mind, not just those who vote for her.
I wish Hillary Clinton had turned around and confronted him when he was lurking and pacing behind her in the debate during the 2016 election and asked, “What do you think you’re doing? Back off!” I wonder if he would have been taken aback or if it would made him angrier and revealed blatantly his own intentions. Many of us have come to be horrified by what he did in office and what he did since being voted out in 2020.
How do people separate who he is from what they erroneously think he can do for them? Do they really trust him to govern? Are they tossing aside the incoherence when he speaks? Are they looking past his lies? Do they want a servant leader or an autocrat? When people say they like his policies, can they really nail him down to say what they are without meandering off into tangential threads? He was asked about his policies on childcare, he went off on a tangent about tariffs. The people on the panel interviewing him just sat there in silence. No one called him out on avoiding answering. I am hoping that the moderators will fact-check and push back on his lies. I have never heard a journalist ask why he feels a need to insult, threaten and demean but wouldn’t it be cool if they did?
The same media folks who had consistently shone a glaring spotlight on what they perceived was President Biden’s cognitive decline, seem to be reluctant to call out the man whose mish mosh word salad is confusing and he speaks like a kid giving a book report who not only hasn’t read the book, but hasn’t even perused the Cliffs Notes. Once again, his base chows down on it. When all is said and done, my hope is that what they witness during the debate will change their votes and help to usher in a time of hope, peace and joy rather than fear and retribution.
