Not because I’m a woman. A poem
Because you went into the office
and I stayed home.
Because my day was slow
and yours went on.
Because you’re hungry and tired
and I have a little more juice.
Because you would do it for me
so I do it for you.
Because I love watching your face
and the upward tick in your mood.
Because I love brightening your day
and there’s no better way than food.
Because you’re my favorite human
and I want to make your life better.
Regardless of what I’m ‘supposed to do’
just because of my gender.
Not because I’m a woman
Not to play any particular role.
Simply because I love you
and love to see you happy, healthy, and whole!
Dedicated to all the women who said they wouldn’t ever cook for a man… and then do.
