Am I the only one who observes that life lessons orbit the wrongs, be it places, people or situations?
The individuals we come across, the individuals we love, the individuals who left us in emotional ruins, and the individuals we cross paths with to absorb their pearls of wisdom and joy are all being determined by forces outside our realm of control.
One step is all it takes for us to go down a completely different path, never finding out how life could have been.
Controlling how I desired a certain outcome repeatedly, I have attempted through brute force to craft opportunities, friendships and relationships that were not meant for me.
I have lost sight of the most important facts about them and their effects on other things. Instead of stopping for a second to learn what was not beneficial to me anymore, I chased after things that pleased my impulsive side and offered short-term pleasure. However, it is vital to learn that my missteps neither represent nor define my identity.
While walking down this path, I am learning to look after myself as I would for another — to soothe myself and make peace with my sense of being, despite my inherent shortcomings, insecurities and imperfections.
Given that we are not immortals, our lives are devoted to perpetual self-exploration and, eventually, to becoming better humans as individuals and within our societies — and that is the mantra that carries me forward every day.
It is no longer about waiting and searching for individuals who fulfil the expectations inside your head that I falsely fabricated. Currently, my attention is on understanding what benefits me and feels right for me and developing an inner voice that supports that.
Every action of mine now points toward fostering relationships with those who advocate for my individuality, comprehend my intricate past, and dares not to challenge my boundaries. Long story short, it is all about acknowledging what I deserve.
When I adored who I had become versus the insecure being who constantly sabotaged himself, I recognised that I could love my life — and ultimately, someone who loves everything about me. It broadens my perspective and helps open my eyes to what I am truly made of, rather than what I am confined by.
