Life is unpredictable. Sometimes, you find yourself in a difficult situation. You may lose a job, or a loved one may pass away. You don’t always have the strength to keep going.
And while it’s OK to feel sad and cry for a little while, it can be more productive to focus on what you still have left rather than what you lost.
Crying over your loss may help you move on and cope with new stresses and obstacles in the future, but it doesn’t help you achieve your goals. Think about what you want to achieve right now. What do you want? You may be able to shift your focus back to those intended goals by considering what you’ve lost.
You can’t control everything, but you can control how you handle it. By focusing on your near-term goals, you can create a buffer zone of positive energy so that when unexpected things happen, you’re better equipped to handle them.
Sometimes it’s better just to accept your setbacks.
Having a setback is normal… It happens to all of us. But when you let the setback get to you and make you feel less motivated, then you’re doing yourself a disservice. You’re giving up on your goals when, in reality, you are right on track.
Don’t be too hard on yourself either. You don’t want to be so pushy that it puts a barrier between your success and yourself or distracts you from the big picture.
Letting yourself have a moment of weakness is OK. Maybe you need to sit down and rest for a few moments, or perhaps you need to finish your work one last time before moving on to the next project.
The key is to know when it’s time for a break and when you need to push through.
Some things in life will never go as planned. You can’t control everything, and sometimes you just need to have faith that things will work out.
And when you do, it will be all worth it.
Have faith in yourself and the universe, and take the time to plan for your future. You’ll be happy you did.
