Stay tuned next week for the next addition of Sports Detox, presented by Michael Kasdan and Wai Sallas.
In the meantime, consider why sports are so important to men (especially) who have normal jobs. Although my hometown baseball team is currently at the bottom of the standings and will likely remain in the basement for the remainder of the season—and probably longer—I still get upset and disappointed when they lose. It’s strange and seemingly irrational.
Back in January, I published an op-ed on entitled “Football Is My Guilty Pleasure,” but I could expand it to cover any sport that I find myself involved in on an emotional level despite being far away from the action on the field or court. What is it about a spectator sport that appeals so much to the male psyche?
