With some new twists added and better graphics yet the same elements Zelda fans enjoy.

This is an interesting video game. It came out originally in 2000 and was suposed to be a direct sequel to one of the best Zelda games Ocarina of Time. Fans were excited when this game came out, but once they finished it there was much disappointment. It is by no means a bad game, but one that breaks away from the normal conventions that fans of the series enjoy. But if you have not played this one, this is a great way to do so.
The story follows Link as he is riding Epona in the woods. He bumps into Skull Kid who is wearing a strange mask and Link ends up chasing him into the woods when he steals his ocarina. Link gets turned into a deku scrub and therefore loses the ability to use most of his items. He ends up in the strange land of Termina where the moon will come crashing down in three days and destroy everything in it’s path. It is up to Link to figure out a way from stopping this catastrophe from occurring, and to stop Skull Kid and his evil plans. But how will Link accomplish this? Why is the moon suddenly going to fall? Where did the Skull Kid get that mask, and just what kind of power does it possess?
This is a different kind of Zelda game. It relies more on collecting masks and finishing side quests rather than fighting in dungeons and beating bosses. There are still four dungeons to explore, but they are not as big and vast as those in other Zelda games like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. There are also new quests like collecting pieces of great fairies in each dungeon, and when this task is accomplished you will get some type of upgrade or new power up to make your quest a bit easier.
There are also four masks that change your appearance like the Zora, Goron, Deku and Giant mask. With these, your character not only changes in appearance but in abilities. As a Deku you are able to blows bubbles at enemies, fly in the air and bounce on water but you can get burned by fire. When you put on the Goron mask, you become huge and can roll into a ball, are invulnerable to fire and stronger than before but you also drown in water. If you put on the Zora mask, you swim in the water with grace and ease and also have two sharp fins you can shoot at enemies from afar and also stun them.
The Giant mask makes you bigger and able to take down enemies that are deadly and really is only used once in a boss battle, but it is still a fun scene to witness. If you collect all of the masks in the game, you are able to get a final transformation mask that I will not spoil here but trust me you will want to do everything required to get it for it is one of the best masks in the whole game.
This is a fun game on the 3DS. The graphics are astounding, with the effects and atmosphere being leaps and bounds from the N64 version. It was a surprise to me how good they are. When you beat the first boss you get to view a cut scene that really pops off of the screen. There is also a chance for gamers to play this in 3D and see the game in a whole new way.
Although the game does rely more on side quests, these can be fun and many of them are challenging. But the best aspect is collecting all of the masks which many of them will take the whole three days to accomplish, but they are well worth it. It can get frustrating if you are making good progress only to find out you are closing in on the final day and will have to play the Song of Time or end up dying, but there are ways to slow time down which makes this not as bad as it may seem. Because of all of these factors, this game gets 8/10. It is not the best game, but with some new twists on the bosses and a few other changes I enjoyed it more than the original version.
If you are a fan of The Legend of Zelda, this is a game you may want to play. If you are looking for a new game to play on the 2DS or 3DS, this is a game you should try. It is one that all ages of gamers can play and one that will bring some moments of frustration but also lots of fun and excitement along the way. Give this game a shot, it is a fun and exciting adventure through time and space.
