Danger is recognizable in any language when accompanied by the appropriate graphic. But we want to remind you that danger isn’t always clearly marked.

A friendly reminder about digging safely: Don’t become a statistic or the headline for a “you won’t believe this” story on the five o’clock news.
“Each year, approximately 700,000 underground utility lines are struck in excavation work, too often with lethal consequences. In 40 percent of these excavations, no calls were made to state one-call centers to ascertain the location of utility lines before digging began.” – Laborer’s Health and Safety Fund of North America
A sobering statistic isn’t it? (When did we ever get intoxicated from statistics?) And we don’t want you to become part of it.
Always request underground location services to mark the area where you plan to excavate, even for small shallow holes. These services are typically free and have relatively quick response time. Maybe not as quick as an emergency team, but the whole point is to NOT need an ambulance.
Even though Labor Day for most is a day “away” from labor, I know many DIY’ers look at this weekend as the last chance to get a major project going before cold weather. So, to all of you late summer “weekend project” warriors, my hats off to you – be safe, have fun.
