Editor’s Note: This poem had me thinking about the term “authentic masculinity.” Men can often feel the need to put on a front of toughness — it’s expected of them — but this front often comes with the kind of consequences that this poem digs to the body of.
I thought you were brave.
You hid the real you from me.
You do not know you.
