Please protect our boys by understanding the signs of male sexual abuse
–
The average class size in today’s schools is about 20-23 kids in public schools based on information from the National Center for Education Statistics. If we hypothesize approximately a third of those kids are males that gives us about 7.6 boys in a class at a minimum. Statistics state 1 in every 6 males suffers sexual abuse in America. Your child may be sitting in a classroom right now with a child who was sexually abused. You may be sitting next to a male co-worker right now who was sexually abused. Sexual abuse is not a “female only” problem but it affects everyone. It impacts the way men love themselves, their mates and their own children.
Boys can be abused by both women and men who are straight or gay. The site 1 in 6 explains information in detail about sexual abuse of males. If you or a loved one has been affected, I encourage you to contact them or a professional for guidance. Sometimes we don’t even know our kids have been affected until we ask the questions. In our efforts to support men, raise awareness I ask you to put forth the an extra effort today to protect a child from male sexual abuse! International Men’s Day is November 19….please protect our boys!
