When my girlfriend and I started going out, we found each other attractive, but it was almost 2 years before we started sleeping together. Most of our relationship was about just helping each other be better. I was….Shit, let’s be honest, I was a brazen, acerbic, angry, overly-intense dude who was, fortunately, also (I’m told) really sweet to certain people, smart, loyal, and honest. Occasionally I managed to be funny. She was my opposite in many ways, unassuming, quiet, sweet, beautiful, timid, and if I’m being fully truthful, a bit too meek for her own good.
We balanced each other out, made each other better. She stands up for herself when people make fun of her for whatever reason assholes make fun of people, and she speaks her mind proudly. I really shouldn’t claim too much credit, but our relationship did boost her confidence. Just as she made me a lot more (i’m told by friends who knew me both pre/post love) tempered, considerate, and laid back, and less likely to, and here I quote a friend directly, “Commit homicide because someone poked you with a pencil after kicking your chair a few times.”
Honestly, after we have sex, we usually just cuddle for a while, and that’s usually as nice, albeit in a different way, as the sex.
