The journey from running away to facing your fears.
—
Having been a survivor of various types of abuse for many years, having been healed of PTSD as a result of those abuses, and having moved beyond suicidal ideations, self abusive behaviors, and more, I know fear on a first name basis.
I mean I know what it smells like, tastes like, looks like, and feels like in the core of my being. That’s why I can say that I feel no fear in my life today regarding living as a man or anything in particular.
That does not mean I am not occasionally “concerned” about things.
However worry, fear, dread change nothing—the best course of action for me is to do what I can where I am with what I have.

What concerns me is living a life where I can’t reach my fullest potential. For me this means being able to serve my community (global and local) as well as my more intimate “tribe.” It means that I feel stagnant and stuck in a morass of inaction, frozen by that dreaded curse “I don’t know how…”
Due to my background, my journey, my current path, I have vast dreams, goals, aspirations that include publishing my third and fourth books before 2018, reawakening my passion to act and direct, selling my art work, serving in my spiritual community in CSL DC as associate minister, hosting a TV show as well as creating a TV action adventure, and more.
I am definitely one of those men who dream the impossible dream, and the impossible stands for “I’m Possible!”
I feel concerned about the state of the world in which we live and are leaving to our children. I feel concerned about the state of politics, corporations as the new kings that govern the globe, and the pollutants and poisons in the air, the soils, and in the foods we consume.
Yes, these things concern me. However worry, fear, dread change nothing—the best course of action for me is to do what I can where I am with what I have. And breathe!

Each of us must evaluate what is most effective in our own lives. As men, there is still a societal expectation that we be and act a certain way. But I say that we can recreate who and what we want to be that is in the best interest for ourselves and as a result for the world.
I have done my best to stretch each day to being something better than the day before.

I remember several years ago watching one of Walt Disney’s children or nephews being interviewed and they were asked what “Uncle Walt” would say about the advice to “Get out of your box.”
They laughed and replied, “He would say, box, what box?”
Ever since hearing that, I have done my best to stretch each day to being something better than the day before. Complacency and comfort are modern day, socially acceptable, metaphysical opiates that many of us have become addicted to filling our bodies, minds, and souls.
We are called to release the old out-dated model of what it means to be a man and to step into a new realm as healer, compassionate warrior, wise guide and protector of what is sacred; not through force, violence, or manipulation, but through communication, compassion, wisdom, and love.
And as I write this and think about this new era for myself and for you who read this, I am reminded of a scripture from the bible from my days as a “Christian:”
“There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, …” 1 John 4:18
Let that be our call to action; Love more!
