Almost Christmas takes a zany look at how tough holidays with the family can be
Christmas will be here before we know it. Around this time of year Hollywood loves to release at least a few holiday films. One of these films is Almost Christmas. I was able to see it early this week and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Almost Christmas here:
Walter (Danny Glover) is a retired automotive engineer who lost the love of his life one year earlier. Now that the holiday season is here, he invites his four grown children and the rest of the family to his house for a traditional celebration. Poor Walter knows that if daughters Rachel (Gabrielle Union) and Cheryl (Kimberly Elise) and sons Christian (Romany Malco) and Evan (Jessie T. Usher) can spend five days together under the same roof, it will truly be a Christmas miracle.
Almost Christmas was an okay film, but I did have a few issues with it. There is a lot of ridiculous comedy going on here and it is not always that funny. I was also appalled and disgusted my Mo’Nique. She almost always made jokes that went over the line and there were some that were just gross. Yet the film has a good balance of truly heart warming moments too. Once this film is over there is a good chance many viewers will feel the Christmas spirit. Almost Christmas gets 5/10. It was not a great Christmas film but there were a few good scenes. The moments when the family found a way to get along were a joy to see unfold. Even though most of this film was predictable overall it was an okay Christmas film. I wouldn’t take kids to see it, but the older family members may find it funny and even enjoy it.
Almost Christmas comes out this Friday. You can follow Almost Christmas on Facebook and Twitter.
