Arrival is one of those rare films that everyone needs to see
I have seen my share of extraterrestrial films. There are films like Independence Day and The Fifth Wave that has aliens coming to our planet for unknown reasons. It is usually up to us to find a way to stop them before our planet becomes theirs. Arrival appears to be one like these films but honestly it is not. I was able to see it earlier this week and here is what I though of it.
Here is the plot for Arrival:
Linguistics professor Louise Banks (Amy Adams) leads an elite team of investigators when humongous spaceships touch down in 12 locations around the world. As nations teeter on the verge of global war, Banks and her crew must race against time to find a way to communicate with the extraterrestrial visitors. Hoping to unravel the mystery, she takes a chance that could threaten her life and quite possibly all of mankind.
I really liked Arrival. It took a while for me to make sense of this film, but once I did I was impressed. The film starts slow and what is happening isn’t always clear. There is a pivotal moment towards the end though that truly put the whole film into focus. It is also really cool how this movie uses language to move the plot along. This surprised me, it isn’t often this is done in films these days. Overall this is a movie that you need to see this weekend, totally worth the price of admission. Arrival has earned 9/10. Films like this just don’t come out everyday. To really understand it you have to pay attention. Those that do though will love the ride this film takes them on. The cast is wonderful and the special effects are amazing. Truly one of the better films to come out this year.
