This ‘Imaginary Mary’ Pilot has some good moments, but a lot of bad jokes too
ABC has a lot of hot shows on TV right now. I really like Quantico, Once Upon a Time and Time After Time. When I heard of Imaginary Mary I thought it looked a bit odd, but I decided to check it out anyway. I was able to watch a screener of the pilot and here is what I thought about it.
You can read the plot for Imaginary Mary here:
A fiercely independent career woman, Alice (Jenna Elfman) has her life turned upside-down when she meets Ben (Stephen Schneider), a divorced father with three children, and soon falls head-over-heals for him. This triggers more upheaval when the imaginary friend she created as a child, Mary (Rachel Dratch), suddenly reappears as she is nervous to meet Ben’s kids for the first time.
This Imaginary Mary pilot is okay, but it has some issues. It has its share of awkward moments that drag the story down which hurts this pilot. The worst thing about it though is Mary. Most of the things she says are wildly inappropriate, and they aren’t funny either. For a comedy this is a bad thing, when you have a character that has pretty much all of its jokes fall flat. The show makes up for it with some charming moments brought on from some of the kids. Overall this show has the potential to be good, but time will tell if it happens or not.
