Once the bane of bare feet, Lego has turned to film in its quest to reverse declining sales, and the latest effort in its series, The Lego Ninjago Movie, opened to largely positive reviews last Friday. Ninjago, which stars Dave Franco, Michael Peña and Jackie Chan, follows the story of Lloyd, a high schooler who fights crime as part of a ninja posse by night. His biggest nemesis? None other than his own father, who brings adult-sized conflict and pathos to this kid-sized film. On paper, there’s reason to think that Ninjago may have been an unwise bet, compared with The Lego Batman Movie, Lego’s last film. Rotten Tomatoes gives Ninjago only 51 percent positive reviews and says that the Lego charm may have run its course. But Social isn’t so sure. On 30db, Ninjago scores a comfortable 74 percent positive sentiment, so it looks like Lego’s film department hasn’t stepped on anything too unpleasant just yet. –Hugo Guzman
