The live action remake of ‘Dumbo’ is coming to Blu-Ray
Dumbo was one of my favorite films to watch as a kid. It has beautiful songs, a touching story and some lovable characters. As an adult I noticed some things about it I just didn’t see as a kid. Even seeing these things though I still think it is a good film. When I heard it was being remade into live action I feared this was a bad idea. Well now it is coming out on Blu-Ray. I was able to get a review copy and here is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Dumbo here:
Struggling circus owner Max Medici enlists former star Holt Farrier and his children to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive but sinister entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere, who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, spectacular, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland.
I wasn’t that impressed by Dumbo. They did a good job bringing him to life though. Those big blues eyes look amazing, and they did a great job bringing so many emotions to this character. This remake has a very talented cast, but they couldn’t do much to make this a good movie. There are only two throw backs to the original, and both are kind of weak. The villain was also not that strong, and posed little threat to this story as a whole. But what hurt this film the most was that the Dumbo story is severely lacking here. There were a few deleted scenes, and ‘Clowning Around’ was fun to watch. I can see some people liking this movie, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
Dumbo arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD tomorrow. You can follow this film on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
