It is no coincidence that baseball’s decline is happening at the same time as the apparent breakdown of common American ideals of democracy and collective action, and that is a bad thing for America.

About Ghazi Al-Marayati
Ghazi Al-Marayati is criminal defense attorney in Malden, Massachusetts, where he lives with his wife, son, cat, and dog. Born in Toledo, Ohio, the son of an Iraqi immigrant father and Irish-American mother, he moved to the Boston area, where his mother was born and raised, at the age of three. He graduated from the Belmont Hill School and earned a B.A. in economics from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut before obtaining his J.D. from Northeastern University in 1997. A three sport varsity athlete in high school, he played a year of college football before accepting that the prospects for an undersized, relatively slow tight end, even in Div. III, were limited. He has coached youth football, baseball, and wrestling, and is a former President of Malden Little League Baseball. Presently, he is an assistant coach for both the Malden High School and Malden Middle School track and field programs, focusing on instructing discus and shot put. When he isn't lawyering or teaching kids to throw heavy things, he can usually be found driving his son to hockey practice, training for and competing in masters discus competitions, and searching the woods for his golf ball.
