Today more than ever we know that our pets deserve the best of treatment. Our dogs, especially, have become members of our families, so it is impossible that they are not inside the house or that we do not worry if we let them out.
First Things First
Dog crate is grids made of various materials, which serve to keep your puppies within a certain space. They are ideal for your pets since they do not feel confined, they have space to play, and they allow them to be with you anywhere without the need for leashes or cages.
There are indoor or outdoor pen or crates. These pens or crates have the same function, but they will vary in size and construction materials depending on their type. In addition, the pen or crates of each type will have different finishes for each type of environment, and have slightly different shapes.
If you are thinking of acquiring a playpen or crate, we recommend that you continue reading our buying guide, where we will present factors that you should consider before finding the ideal playpen or crate for your puppy. Some of these factors are the size of your dog, the size of the pen or crate, and the material of the pen or crate.
When getting a dog run, you may have questions about the type that will best suit your pet, your home, and your family. That is why here we give you everything you need to know about buying a corral for your dog.
Size of your Dog
The size of your dog is a decisive factor in both the length of the corral and the height and area to be placed, since different types of puppies need more or less space to move. Either way, remembers that a pen or crate should not be your dog’s permanent area.
Small breeds: With small breeds, such as Chihuahuas or Pomeranians, or for use with puppies of any breed, you can purchase any type of pen or crate. The only restriction is that you observe the space of the racks, and that the pen or crate has no spaces underneath that allow your puppies to escape.
Medium breeds: With medium breeds, we do not recommend having a pen or crate that is too small (4 panels), as these puppies can feel enclosed. It is always better to have a larger pen or crate, regardless of the size of the dog.
Large breeds: These breeds are those that require a more specific type of pen or crate, as they have more abilities to escape from it. We recommend that, if your dog is large and you know that he can jump, you buy a pen or crate with panels at least one meter high, and with a good space for him to move.
Dog Crate Size
The size of the corral you need will depend or crated a lot on all the factors that we mention in this section, that is, the size of your dog, its material, and in general the area where you intend to place the corral.
Small (four panels one and a half meters wide):
These pens or crates are generally placed indoors, and are suitable for smaller dogs. They don’t work very well outdoors, as dogs don’t have space to exercise or play. They are ideal to put your bed and your water and food dishes.
Medium (6 panels one and a half meters wide):
Medium pen or crates are used for indoor and outdoor; also depend on the size of your dog. Remember that many corrals that are built with panels sell additional pieces, so you can always buy more panels if you think it is not big enough.
Large (more than 6 panels of one and a half meters, more than 1 meter high):
Wooden dog crate which are large in size are perfect for large breed dogs as long as you make sure your dog cannot jump over the panels. They are ideal for any type of dog outdoors, as it allows them to play and move more freely.
Material and Design
Finally, dog crates will vary depend or cratering on their design and function, that is, if they are for indoors or outdoors. Each type of material has its advantages and disadvantages, which we present in the following list.
Steel: This is the material with which most outdoor pens or crates are made, as it is resistant to rain, sun, and is easy to assemble and store anywhere. They are very resistant, although they are not as showy as those that are designed in plastic or wood.
Plastic: Plastic pens or crates come in many, many forms, although they are most common in indoor pens or crates. We can find, for example, plastic “gate” pens or crates, but also pens or crates with transparent plastic panels. They are very resistant and more decorative.
Wood: These pens or crates are quite decorative; they can be used for both indoor and outdoor use, although we must be careful with outdoor pens or crates because normally these pens or crates cannot be stored so easily. They are hardy and great for large dogs.
Cloth: Fabric playpen or crates look like a playpen or crate for babies in the sense that they are soft, perfect for indoors, and are good for keeping your puppies playing indoors. They are ideal for puppies, and they often have a waterproof fabric on the floor area to prevent accidents.
