I wrote about the things that he does to let me know how deeply he loves me. I am not immune to the siren call of love, either, it seems, and once I saw it coming, there were so many details that made it real.
The signs I meant to heed, they’re here in list form.
- He gave me back my ability to listen to love songs.
- He dances randomly, just like I do.
- He has no tolerance for people who hurt me, and tells them as much.
- He greets Puffin every day just as he greets me.
- He tells me not to worry, and that he’ll let me know when it is time to worry.
- He brings me ice cream just because he knows eventually it will be 2am.
- He looks at me like there’s nobody else in the room. I don’t think he knows there is.
- He is, at his core, good. Not spiteful, or cruel, or angry. Just good.
- He is loved by every dog, everywhere.
- He has feelings, and he reminds me of it, so I don’t forget and hurt them.
Nowhere near perfect, but made of far more good than murky or uncertain fillers. I am grateful for him. Every day, I thank God for our time together.
