Do you ever think of yourself as a role model? Do people look at your behavior and wish they could be more like you? Do you dare to let your best behavior shine or do you hide it under a bushel? (old saying…)
I’m really inspired this week as I read such a wide variety of our forward-thinking writers on Medium. I’ve been impressed that so many seem to be a role model for accountability, urgency and thought leadership. I am grateful that I am part of a community with so many outstanding contributors, at every level of experience and education.
What got me thinking about this topic was a quote from Steve Maraboli’s book Life, the Truth and Being Free(1)
Does it take a lot of energy — and even some bravery — to dare to be your best?
No doubt.
Is it worth the investment?
Always.
All of these dares are powered from within; we have control, we can make them happen. Sometimes, times are tough. After two years of COVID, we’re all tired. But what can set us apart as individuals and as a team is our reaction to circumstances beyond our control.
Whatever your situation, whatever your definition of being “daring,” one thing is consistent — it’s the deep knowing of whether or not we are showing up in our lives, and not just letting them happen around us. It’s the deep knowing that we are doing all we can to step up to be our best.
We know that if we dare in the context of our lives (inside or outside work,) it doesn’t mean that we always succeed or do magnificent things. In fact, we may well fail in our attempts sometimes, What’s important is that we give it our best shot, we are honest and authentic, we aspire to be our best, and we dare to dare to make it happen.
Give it a try, after all, today’s dare becomes tomorrow’s success!
Dare to be your best. Today will be better for it.
. . .
