They told me they cleaned their room. They kept bragging about how good of a job they did. When I went up there, it was crap all over the place, so I said, “Everything I pick up off the floor because now you’re asking me to come look at it, I’m gonna… you’re gonna have to do push-ups, squats, and read a page.” So, I ended up picking 57 things off the floor, and there was so much more stuff. I told them that they would have to do squats, push-ups, and read a page in the number.
This is an alternative way for us to discipline our kids instead of getting upset, being physical, and all that stuff. This works for us because they have to feel it somehow. If you still want to be lazy, that’s fine, but you’re gonna have to work at some point, right? So, you can be lazy and not do the job that you said you were going to do and that you called me to affirm you, right? Or you can make it count and handle your business, and you don’t have to do any more work.
So, this is just our little alternative, you know what I’m saying? It doesn’t have to be, “You disobeyed me, and therefore, I’m angry, and now I’m going to discipline you and physically touch you,” you know what I’m saying? But I’ve also come a long way in my journey as a father, and the kids have always been great and respectful. Them not listening to me isn’t them disrespecting me; it’s them disrespecting themselves. It’s their room, and I want them to have pride in it. But if you’re going to waste my time and bring me upstairs to look at it, then we’re going to waste your time. So, you’re going to owe me time, and that’s all that is.
