Purpose defines our choices. The ultimate purpose creates meaning, which lasts a lifetime. Sometimes, though, we lose touch of the purpose we once had. Often, it happens when we are burdened or overwhelmed with life’s trials. When you seek something important, like a career, or a life partner, you’ll put so much more energy into pursuit.
The purpose you hold creates motivation, and builds upon both your heart and mind the meaning you carry inside. Have you noticed the times when you keep going forward, yet still feel like you don’t have a clue what it is you want or what your purpose is? Maybe you feel purposeful, but want more out of life. You desire your purpose, rewards, and challenges to get deeper fulfillment and build your life of meaning around action.
My experience
When I first felt inspired to start a business, I immediately set to work to get things into place. I had two other people who were a part of the plan, however, COVID kept us from getting started, among other things, and the two individuals moved on without following through with the plan. Instead of quitting, I decided to hang in there and keep going.
As I move forward, I can see how the motivation to serve continued to fuel the purpose. As of this writing, I have been in office 11 months. I have 32 clients, and provide three active groups. Every time I run a group, I am reminded of the purpose I have set to help stem the tide of domestic violence in the communities I reach. Has it been easy doing this alone? No, and thankfully I have a colleague who has stepped up and helped as much as she has been able. One day, I am hoping to have two team members, and two more groups, including groups for couples. Dreams fuel future dreams.

Whatever type of greater fulfillment in life you seek, the following 5 secrets for living a more satisfying, fulfilling life will start you in the right direction:
What delights you?
A quiet evening with your favorite book? Maybe you think of writing a book, or creating a poem. Is it possible you wanted to travel? Whatever it is you really love to do, make a plan right now to set in motion the dream. Avoid making any excuses for why you “can’t” do something you really want to do.
Make it happen: Write it in your calendar, set reminders on your phone, and turn down other invitations if you need to. Set a few mini goals, build up to a major goal, and create an action plan to ensure your life builds a circle around the things which create joy in you.
Open your mind to new possibilities.
Be willing to make changes in your life. When you keep your mind open, interesting and exciting experiences will come your way. You just might stumble in to the most fulfilling life ever by trying something new. Consider a job transfer to another state. Perhaps you’d join the club where several of your friends find interesting. Get to know someone new and totally different from your usual crowd of people.
Save your money for something special.
Whatever it is you yearn for — a new house, a training you want to learn, a new car, or a new electric violin — focus on working and saving to get it. Part of living a great life is going after something you really want. Set up a bank account to save specifically for the object or experience you desire. Make it a priority to make regular deposits to this account.
Saving money over a period of time and then buying your “dream” is incredibly fulfilling when the dream has a strong presence in your everyday life. In fact, a fulfilling life involves several episodes of saving and obtaining milestones and rewards of your own choosing.
Enlarge your support network.
Build strong relationships with a supportive, nurturing circle of friends and family members who cherish you. The enriched experiences of your life build connections when you can call on someone close at any given time. Have more than one special friend who is supportive, as well as be supportive to friends and family as well. You’ll be trusted, and you’ll be able to trust others.
Develop a sense of adventure.
When you arise in the morning, look toward the next 24 hours with a sense of wonder and fascination. Each morning, ask yourself “What’s going to happen today?” Will you meet a new person, who becomes a good friend? Will you be assigned a new project at work and develop new skills in the process?
Whatever challenge comes your way, confront, embrace, and give your best effort. If you consider life’s trials as great journeys you traverse, the discovery of valuable knowledge about yourself and the world around you shows up. Life is full of fulfilling moments. When you view life as a huge adventure you’ll find each event is made up of smaller fascinating experiences.
. . .
New possibilities are right around the corner if you open your eyes. You are in control of the moment you live. If you find yourself wanting more out of life, endeavor to do what you enjoy, keep yourself open to new possibilities, and face each day with a spirit of adventure.
As I move forward, finding more fulfillment and possibilities, I will continue to take hold of my future with the same five ideas above. Will you join me and find your fulfilling future? When you are ready, you will truly live your best life.
