Continued from Part 3…
There really is no “big secret” of life. Rather, life is simply meant to be lived. Those with a heroic mindset know they can live how they wish, as long as they do not harm others, whether mentally or physically.
There is heroic potential in all of us. The dynamic tension between the survival instinct of our mammalian brains and the spark of “divine” consciousness keeps us necessarily restless. It is the bittersweet condition that makes human beings unique among the animal kingdom: self-awareness is simultaneously a blessing and a curse.
Rather than chain ourselves by resisting this truth, cultivating a heroic mindset allows us to embrace this foundational aspect of our nature. We can all learn to use this fountain of energy to achieve great things. Life is meant to be a journey of mystery and wonder. When we suppress our need to see life as a journey of experience and change, we create suffering for ourselves and others.
It’s not enough to just sit and dream about the life you want to achieve. You must take action. Listen to your instincts, and create your purpose based on what makes you excited. Then, do things (even if they’re just “baby steps”) to move toward your goals. This is the true way to reach happiness: an indirect path that winds through the things about which you’re passionate.
What to Take on Your Heroic Journey
On your journey, remember some key things:
- Focus on results, not how you’ll get there. Trust your gut and watch for opportunities.
- People are possibility. Go out and interact with the world.
- Failure is a natural part of life, and the way to success. Don’t be ashamed to fail.
- Use the CALL Cycle whenever confronted with a challenging situation.
- Remember, the journey of this life doesn’t last forever. Don’t live like you have an eternity. Make each day count.
Living with a heroic mindset is not about getting to call yourself a hero. It’s about struggling well by seeing your obstacles as opportunities rather than annoyances. Ultimately, it’s about living well and letting yourself be happy. That is a gift to yourself and others. Happy people spread happiness.
So, now you have the mindset and the method. Time to get in motion! Don’t just be a hero. Live The Hero!
