I always find it interesting how people use January 1st, as the day where everything will change, and their dreams will come true. Is there some magic I don’t know about? Because, to my knowledge, no one I’ve know has set new years resolutions and maintained or kept them.
So why do we not succeed, even with the best intentions? Because we are human.
As humans, we are creatures of habit for good or for bad. So even though you’ve decided that on January first, you will hit the gym every day, with good intentions. However, as a creature of habit, you will slowly not go. Your natural habit probably didn’t include the gym, so why would it now.
“New year, same you,” should be the slogan for the new year. Instead of creating an entirely different version of yourself in honor of a revolution around the sun, you should focus on one thing. Take that one thing and break it down into smaller items. With each of those small things, do one at a time until it becomes a habit. That’s when you add another little thing. Soon the pile of little changes will have made a difference in you.
Change isn’t easy, and it surely doesn’t come as the result of some drunken goals about changing the way you currently suck. Because of that, think differently, start small, write down your goals and break those down even further. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you change the process.
So 2019, here we come!!!
